Christmas cheer for the homeless
Food truck owner remembers her time on the streets and offers a meal to others ‘to fill my heart and warm theirs’
A FORMER homeless woman is helping the homeless herself this Christmas by supplying meals from her food truck.
Known for her daily Miam J’ai Faim food van in Saint-Agathon, Guingamp, Côtes-d'Armor in Brittany, 34-year-old Chrys has decided to offer around 30 meals to the area’s homeless tomorrow.
She has already toured various rough-sleeping sites letting people know about what she is planning and has handed out tickets for the homeless to join her at Place du Vally in Guingamp to share a Christmas Eve meal.
Although it is likely just to be soup, a well-filled sandwich, chips and a coffee she told Ouest-France that when she had found herself on the streets at the age of 18 it had been at the same time of year and she would have loved to have had a hot meal to see her through.
The L’Echo de lArmor et L’Argoat website
has an interview with Chrys on YouTube
Christmas was the time to offer a bit of cheer and she said she had, herself, been offered help when she needed it and this had let her rebuild her life.
“I am not going to make any money – just fill my heart and warm theirs. A smile to say thank you will be enough.”
She added: “Homeless people are just like you and me. In doing this I feel I am helping a little – and a little gesture can give back hope.”
And she intends that this year’s meal will be the first of many and is planning to launch an association to help people on the street.
The January issue of The Connexion is on sale in shops now and features a former homeless person who is now helping find homes for others in Lille.
