Climbers found dead on Mont Blanc

Rescue services took their bodies down to the resort of Courmeyeur

THE two climbers stranded for a week in freezing conditions on Mont Blanc have not survived their ordeal.

Olivier Sourzac, 47, and Charlotte Demetz, 44, were found dead by rescue services, at over 4,000m altitude on the Grandes Jorasses route.

Head of the rescue operations Alessandro Cortinaris said they had been found in a snow-hole dug underneath an overhanging rock.

Their bodies were taken down to Courmeyeur by helicopter.

They had been stranded by bad weather after climbing up the mountain on Wednesday last week.
