Corsicans use most Viagra

Study of French pharmacies paints new map of France with Limousin and Auvergne having lowest usage

CORSICANS use more Viagra than any other part of France, a new study has discovered – with Limousin and Auvergne having the lowest consumption.

Breton newspaper Le Télégramme published a new map of France using information from a study by Vannes health statistics company Celtipharm, which revealed the results from pharmacies nationwide.

It showed that Corsica had the biggest users then Alsace, Ile-de-France and Paca (the region from Marseille east to Nice and Menton). Corsicans used three times the number of Viagra tablets as residents of Limousin, and twice that of Auvergnats.

The full list reads: Corsica, Alsace, Ile-de-France, Paca, France-Comté, Lorraine, Rhône-Alpes, Languedoc-Roussillon, Bourgogne, Midi-Pyrénées, Haute-Normandie, Bretagne, Aquitaine, Centre, Pays-de-la-Loire, Champagne-Ardenne, Poitou-Charentes, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, Basse-Normandie, Picardie, Auvergne, Limousin.

Even although prescribed by a doctor, for erectile dysfunction, Viagra is not reimbursed by the Sécurité Sociale and costs €72 for a pack of four of the blue diamond-shaped tablets – although generics that cut the price to 25% have been available since last June.

Sales totalled €143million in 2013 and the east of France was shown to have the largest consumption – perhaps because of purchases from across the border – and the study also showed sales rose in summer.
