Dating site puts men on display
A dating site is inviting women to check out men displayed like ‘Ken dolls’ in a temporary Paris shop
A DATING website which invites women to “adopt a bloke” has put men on display like “Ken dolls” for the opening of a temporary Paris shop.
The site www.AdopteUnMec.com is inviting women to check out around a dozen male members of its site, labelled with names like “Mr Muscle, “le Rocker, or “l’Aventurier” (the Adventurer).
In the basement there is a “lounge” area where they can get to know the man of their choice.
The shop, at 15 rue des Halles, is open only until next week, and is due to go to Brussels, Lausanne, Toulouse and Lyon.
It is a marketing ploy for the site, which has been going four years and claims 4.7 million people have joined.
One of the men, Arnaud Dimard, 24, told Le Point: “It’s nothing like the girls in Amsterdam – there’s no prostitution and we’re there to serve these young ladies.”
Communication director Thomas Pawlowski said: “Girls can come and do their shopping among friends; we’re just showing our fun side... it’s ironic, our marketing is all pretty wacky, there’s no smutty connotation to it.”
The site has around 600,000 active members, employs 30 and had a turnover of €9.4m last year. Women can join it free but men pay €30 a month.
