Deadline for taxe foncière
The main homeowners’ tax is payable this week if paying in the traditional ways
THE DEADLINE for paying taxe foncière – paid by most homeowners – is coming up this week if you are paying in one of the traditional ways.
This includes methods like cheque, cash or ‘TIP’ (titre interbancaire de paiement), however if paying by internet or on a smartphone using the impots.gouv app you have an extension until Tuesday 20 at midnight and the money will not be debited until October 26.
Note, however, that if you usually pay taxe foncière in monthly instalments by direct debit then you probably will not have had your bill yet – they are sent out around the end of October. The avis will tell you if still you have more tax to pay or not in this case, for example if the tax in your area has increased significantly compared to previous years – if not the October instalment will have been the last.
If you pay both main local taxes on this basis (called mensualisationavis forms will be sent from October 15 to early November.
Note that for those owning plots of land other than ordinary gardens, separate taxe foncière sur les propriétés non-bâties may be payable. In some areas this has been steeply increased this year for building land.
Payment dates for taxe d’habitation are roughly a month after taxe foncière.
