Dozens of lorries punctured on M-way
More than 30 trucks left stranded on northern motorway after hitting iron bar
MORE than 30 trucks were left stranded on the A36 motorway between Montbéliard and Belfort in Franche Comté, north-eastern France after hitting an iron bar on the road that punctured their tyres.
Drivers were forced to pull over on to the hard shoulder and wait for breakdown services as it is illegal for motorists to change a tyre by the side of the motorway.
Understandably, the tyre repair services were overwhelmed by the demand – and exhausted, with lorry tyres weighing around 50kg each.
The offending iron bar was part of a viaduct supporting a stretch of motorway and is thought to have become dislodged, protruding about 5cm into the road.
