Driving instructor caught at 214kph
Man whose job is to teach safe driving faces a six-month ban and a fine for breaking the limit
A DRIVING instructor faces losing his licence - and his job - after he was caught speeding at more than 200kph.
The 28-year-old man was clocked doing 214kph in his Mercedes on the A16 motorway near Amiens, where the speed limit is 130kph.
He was stopped by gendarmes and his licence and car were confiscated on the spot. He faces a six-month driving ban and a €1,500 fine when he appears in court today.
According to local newspaper Le Courier Picard, the driving instuctor told gendarmes it was not the first time he had been stopped for speeding. He had been fined three years ago for doing 193kph.
Police and gendarmes have reinforced their speed checks across France in recent weeks, for the peak summer holiday getaway.
The worst weekend on the road network is likely to be at the end of July, when the first batch of holidaymakers return at the same time as another group sets off.
