Two border regions of France will now be connected by a direct flight year-round, as Perpignan airport sees a route expansion.

Low-cost airline Volotea will run its Perpignan-Lille flight twice a week for the entire year, after previously suspending the route throughout the winter season.

During the summer period (April - October) flights will be on Mondays and Fridays, and in the winter on Thursdays and Sundays.

The airline is also considering a third weekly flight during the high tourist seasons, such as school holidays and on public holiday weekends.

The line was highly demanded by travellers in both the north and south, hence the expansion, said airport management to media outlet Actu

Tickets begin at €56 one way on the Volotea website.

Perpignan is one of France’s smaller regional airports, yet has seen a close to 12% increase in passenger numbers in recent years, as more holidaymakers use the airport as a launchpad for Pyrénées getaways.

It hosts three flights to UK destinations – Leeds Bradford, Birmingham, and London, which are seasonal routes – as well as one route to Dublin.

At the same time, it offers flights to North Africa and French overseas territories, serving residents in the south looking for their own holiday plans.

In 2024, it saw 500,000 passengers pass through, a ten-year high.

However, the airline is struggling to attract new routes amid financial difficulties in the sector.
