Drought warning in the north
Water restrictions in place in 31 departments as preventative measure
WATER restrictions have been put in place in 31 departments mostly in the north of France.
The measures include a ban on washing cars, watering lawns or public parks and pavements and buildings not subject to construction work.
Filling up swimming pools is also be banned.
The Ministry of Ecology said the measures were more preventative and that France was not suffering a drought as yet.
Rains in June and July in the south of the country means no restrictions are needed at present.
