Education ministry in grammar gaffe
Press office has trouble with spelling, syntax, conjugation and verb agreements
STAFF at the Education Ministry have been left red-faced after they issued a press release on school reform littered with dozens of spelling and grammar mistakes.
The information pack was handed to journalists on Monday ahead of this week’s rentrée.
The errors cover language basics such as spelling, syntax, verb conjugation and agreements.
Examples include “la réforme est entré” – which should come with an additional e because it is a feminine noun.
“Se sont 214 289 élèves” should be “ce sont” and “écoles maternelle” needs an extra s to make a plural agreement.
Other mistakes include sentences that stop unexpectedly and capitalised words in the middle of a phrase.
An Education Ministry spokeswoman said the errors had been amended and a revised version of the press pack had now been issued.
