The start date of the Schengen Zone’s new automated border check - or the EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) - was officially announced yesterday (July 21) as October 12, 2025.
However we note today that this date was removed on the official website and have asked for an explanation.
The new system for non-EU nationals will be phased out, and it will take up to six months for all entry and exit border points to be subject to the rules.
After this six-month point, the bloc will start implementing the visa-waiver system known as ETIAS. The travel authorisation will be required for visa-exempt nationals and will allow them to enter the Schengen Zone for short periods.
