EU elections - how to register
Registration deadline for voting in France is December 31.
THE DEADLINE to register for the European Elections is December 31.
Any EU citizen aged 18 or over can register to vote in the country where they are living.
Registration takes place at your local Mairie. You will need to prove a) your EU nationality b) your identity and c) that you live in the area.
Your passport or national identity card will be accepted to prove both nationality and identity at the same time.
You can also use a previous carte électorale, certificat de nationalité, décret de naturalisation and carte de naturalisation.
A driving licence with a photo can also be used to prove your identity.
You must also be able to prove that you have been living regularly or continuously in the area for at least six months. The following documents with your address will be accepted:
- Gas, phone or water bills
- Rent contract
- Wage slips or pension documents
- Documents from official bodies such as CPAM
Financial documents such as tax bills for taxe foncière, taxe d'habitation or taxe professionnelle will also be accepted.

The elections will take place in different EU countries on June 4 -7, 2009.
