Farts selling well from Montcuq

Student has an idea to make money out of village's funny name - and sells tins of 'air from my backside'

TINS of farts are selling well after a young student from the Lot village of Montcuq (outsiders pronounce it the same as mon cul / my backside) decided to turn the tables and offer tins of "air from my backside" or l'air de Montcuq.

Antoine Deblay came up with the idea while studying in Toulouse and, after raising funds through the crowdfunding site KissKissBankBank, he started selling the tins which are "guaranteed 100% organic air from my backside".

So far he has sold 70 of the 250ml tins - with each carrying the warning that the "content is irreplaceable, use only once". To ensure the quality he says that he fills each tin for three hours on a warm, sunny day – and, to avoid emptying Montcuq of its air, he will only collect 10 litres of air a week.

It took him just 30 days to raise the 800 euros needed to start up his project and let him buy the tins and print the labels. He is selling them - for delivery only in France - through his website airdemontcuq.fr at 5 euros each plus 5.50 euros post and packing.

However, the joke is on outsiders ... because locals pronounce the village name as Mon-kook.
