Fast-food fans queue for Whoppers

Burger King opens new Paris takeaway a day early and hundreds answer opening-day tweet

HUNDREDS of fast-food fans queued round the block in Paris yesterday to welcome Burger King’s return to the capital after 15 years.

Opened a day early and announced on Twitter, the new branch in Gare Saint-Lazare is just the start of plans for 400 restaurants across the country.

The tweet brought in hundreds of customers from the one million passengers who commute through the station every day. And they did not mind the queues. Fans waited for over an hour for their Whoppers.

Burger King pulled out of France in 1997 because of poor sales but returned at the end of last year when it opened its first takeaway in Marseille and then at a motorway service station near Reims.

Now a franchise agreement with an Italian chain will create more eateries in train stations, motorway service stations and airports.
