Fireworks surprise delights Parisians
Midnight display ushers in New Year on the Champs-Elysées
PARIS celebrated the dawn of 2015 in style last night, as hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Champs-Elysées were treated to a dramatic - and surprise - minute-long fireworks display on the stroke of midnight.
Revellers on “the most beautiful avenue in the world” had been treated to a 15-minute video tribute to the art and architecture of the city on the Arc de Triomphe before, as the capital ushered in the New Year, the first firework illuminated the night sky from the top of the iconic structure.
The New Year’s Eve celebration was a campaign promise of mayor Anne Hidalgo.
After the display had wowed party-goers, the Arc was emblazoned with the words “bonne année”
After last night’s festivities, all that remains is for everyone at Connexion to wish all our readers a Happy New Year, and best wishes for a healthy and peaceful 2015.
