Flights cancelled in Thursday strike

Latest info on what effect the October 28 national strike in France is having on air travel and public transport

ORLY will be the worst-affected of France's airports today, as unions stage a further day of nationwide strike action over pensions.

Half of flights serving Orly are cancelled. About 30 per cent of flights at Charles de Gaulle will not run, and a similar percentage at the other regional bases around France.

The French civil aviation authority, DGAC, has asked all airlines to cut their schedules accordingly. You should check with your company before travelling.

Easyjet has announced a large number of cancellations on its website. Air France says it aims to run every long-haul flight, but cancellations are inevitable on shorter routes.

Metros, buses and trams

Public transport authorities in 29 towns around France are taking part in the strike - down on previous strike days.

The affected places are: Angers, Angoulême, Antibes, Avignon, Belfort, Besançon, Caen, Cannes, Clermont-Ferrand, Dijon, Elbeuf, Evreux, Grenoble, Limoges, Lorient, Lyon, Marseille, Montluçon, Montpellier, Nantes, Nice, Pau, Rennes, La Rochelle, Rouen, Saint-Nazaire, Strasbourg, Toulon and Toulouse.

Paris public transport body RATP says there will be a near-normal level of service on all routes in the capital.

Trains

The impact on train services should be limited, according to the SNCF.

It estimates that 80 per cent of TGVs will be running as normal, however only 60 per cent of TERs and Transilien services will run and only half of Corails.

Eurostar and Thalys should both be unaffected by the strike.
