Four-day school week
Mrs Harvey ( Hooray for return of the 4-day week , September) raised a number of issues for me.
Given that she now lives in France and appears to have five young children, I question the length of experience on which she bases her observations.
I worked in a cross-section of educational establishments, my partner taught up to the age of 65 and we have a friend who retired from teaching aged 75. None of us seems to have observed the so-called problems in pupils that Mrs. Harvey attributes to the five-day school week. Those who came to school with “dark circles under their eyes” tended to be those allowed to stay up to the early hours watching TV.
Perhaps blame should be laid at the door of parents rather than the five-day school week.
