France treating UN Ebola worker

Victim is being cared for at a Paris military hospital after contracting virus in Sierra Leone

A UN aid worker is being treated in a Paris hospital after contracting the Ebola virus while working in Sierra Leone.

The victim was evacuated from Freetown in a secure medical plane and is being treated in isolation at the Bégin military hospital in Saint Mandé.

It is the second reported case of Ebola in France. A nurse working for Médecins Sans Frontières was successfully treated in October after returning from Liberia.

According to the health ministry, 500 suspected cases have been reported in France since June - 18 were considered "likely" and referred for further testing and came back negative.

Twelve research hospitals around France have isolation areas specially set up to deal with suspected Ebola cases.

The World Health Organisation says the disease has killed 5,000 people in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.
