France-UK flights delayed by volcano

There will be no flights into or out of the UK this afternoon due to ash from a volcanic eruption in Iceland

FLIGHTS from France to the UK are cancelled or delayed today - due to a volcanic eruption in Iceland.

Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports were among the first to close as clouds of ash from the eruption are blown towards the UK by the wind.

The problem has now spread further south, affecting all airports.

Air traffic controllers say no flights will be allowed into or out of UK from midday to 6pm today (UK time).

Easyjet said in a statement this morning: "Safety is our number one priority and based on advice from the UK Met Office and Air Traffic Control any flights that pass through affected airspace have been cancelled. All airlines are affected by this unavoidable issue."

Travellers are encouraged to check with their airline before leaving. Under EC regulations, a full refund of the flight or a free transfer to another flight should be offered.
