France-UK travel disrupted by snow

Some Eurostar trains and flights at Orly and Charles de Gaulle airport are cancelled

HALF of Eurostars between Paris and London and a quarter of flights at Charles de Gaulle airport have been cancelled today because of the snow.

The French civil aviation body has asked airlines to cut their flights at Orly airport by 10 per cent and 25 per cent at Charles de Gaulle.

Seven return Eurostar journeys between France and the UK will not run today, and Brussels journeys are also affected.

London Gatwick airport remains closed until at least Friday morning. Lyon airport, which was closed yesterday, is open again, but delays are likely.

Météo France has issued an orange weather warning - the second-highest level of four - for 24 departments until 6.00 on Friday.

The affected areas are the north coast, the Ile-de-France, Poitou-Charentes, Limousin and northern Aquitaine.

Gendarmes in Brittany have advised residents not to travel by car unless absolutely necessary.

School buses are cancelled today in large parts of the west of France. All schools in the Côtes d'Armor are closed, with a minimum level of service in operation.

Several hundred vehicles were stranded overnight on the RN12, the main road along the north Brittany coast. The road remains closed this morning between Tramain and Saint-Brieuc (Côtes d'Armor).

One TGV in five from Paris to the south-east is cancelled today, with delays of up to an hour on those that are running.

Trains are also delayed in the Centre and Rhône-Alpes, where speed restrictions are in place.

The travel situation is expected to return to normal tomorrow.
