Conditions across much of France are set to be calm this weekend, although rain and wind is forecast across Normandy and Brittany.

Southern regions will benefit from plenty of sunshine and the warmest temperatures, with central areas falling somewhere in the middle.

Friday, June 5

Friday will see a return to conditions from the start of the week, mostly calm if cloudy.

While sunshine will be limited to around 3 - 6 hours in the north, the Mediterranean will see up to 12 hours of sun across the day.

Rain will be limited to the Hauts-de-France region and coastal Brittany, but will be limited to showers.

Temperatures will remain between 18C - 20C across France, rising to 23C-25C in the south-east. This is around 1C to 2C colder than usual for the season (except in the Riviera, where it is slightly above average).

Saturday, June 6

Rain will move in overnight from Brittany, sweeping across northern France and through the Loire Valley.

By Saturday morning, it will reach south to La Rochelle / Limoges, north to Lille and the Belgian border. In the afternoon, it will move east, reaching the German border.

However, this rainfall will be light – if persistent around Paris and Normandy – and is not expected to develop into storms.

Alongside rain, Brittany and Normandy will face winds of up to 80km/h.

In the south, conditions remain calm and sunny, essentially unchanged from Friday.

Temperatures in the north will drop slightly, with highs of 15C - 17C, but in the south remain unchanged.

Sunday, June 7

The south’s pleasant conditions will push northwards, bringing sunshine and warmer temperatures than on Friday or Saturday.

Rain and wind will be limited to the north-west, largely around coastal Brittany and western Normandy. There is a chance, however, that that disturbance is minimal and the regions also benefit from calm conditions.

Wispy clouds will remain north of the Loire, but in the south skies should be clear.

Highs of 20C - 22C in the north (although only 18C in Brittany) are warmer than across the previous few days. In the south, highs of 24C - 26C are forecast, potentially rising to 30C along the Mediterranean.

Early forecasts for next week see a fresh bout of rain and storms at the start of the week – potentially violent around the Alps and Massif Central.

By Thursday (June 11), temperatures in the south-west are set to rise again, potentially reaching above 30C. Parts of western France may see temperatures reach around 10C above usual for the season, with national average temperatures around 4C higher than usual for the month.
