Wave of cold weather, sunshine, and snow in the mountains to last until mid week
FREEZING temperatures, bright sunshine and snow in the mountains will characterise the weather for most of France for the next few days.
Night time temperatures will drop below zero and below away from coastal areas this weekend in the first cold snap following a mild and wet December.
Snow has been falling even at low altitudes in the mountains, a much welcome shift for ski resorts which have closed pistes due to the lack coverage so far this season.
It will continue this weekend, even during Saturday day time in the Alps and north east, while the rest of the country will see bright sunshine, occasionally interspersed with cloud.
On Sunday the west of the country will awake to a hazy morning, while in the centre and east the maximum day time temperatures will not rise above zero.
Rain is expected to move in from the west on Monday, raising temperatures slightly. In the west the negative daytime temperatures could continue until Thursday.
