French celebrate Tour de France Bastille Day victory
Warren Barguil won the 13th stage of the Tour de France on Sunday, coinciding with Bastille Day
French fans had something to cheer about when Warren Barguil became the first French Bastille Day winner since 2005, when David Moncoutié won in Digne.
My Barguil is the fourth French stage winner this year, after Romain Bardet won stage 13.
Mr Barguil identifies as both a Frenchman and a Breton. "It's been a long time since a Breton won a stage in the Tour, too. So that makes me even more proud of doing it," he said.
Colombia's Quintana was second and Spaniard Contador third to take back almost two minutes on Italian Fabio Aru, who maintained the race lead at the end of the short 101km Pyrenean stage from Saint-Girons to Foix.
“For first time in years, a Chris Froome win isn't a foregone Tour conclusion”, said sports network ESPN.
