French radio show for deaf people
Broadcaster RTL begins experiment that will provide real-time sign language to accompany talk show
A RADIO show for deaf people is launching in France this week.
One of the country's biggest broadcasting groups, RTL, has begun an experiment that will see its mid-afternoon talk show also available in video form with sign language.
On est fait pour s'entendre will be presented by Flavie Flament between 15.00 and 16.00 each weekday and aims to give an insight into the daily challenges faced by people who cannot hear.
They will be invited to contribute to the programme and two interpreters will provide the sign language, which can be seen in real-time on the website RTL.fr
Expert guests will also be called in to discuss deaf issues - the first, this Monday, being a leading French ethnologist who has written a history of French sign language.
RTL said in a statement: "This interactive experience aims to allow everyone to find out more about other people's experiences."
