French want UK to leave EU
More French people want the UK to leave the EU than to see it stay.
Polls carried out in the UK, France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway showed that the only countries with a majority who now want to see Britain leave were France and the UK, at 38% and 47% respectively.
A total of 32% of French people polled in the YouGov survey would prefer the UK stayed in, while 30% said they ‘don’t know’.
Out of those French people wanting Brexit to go ahead 46% want it to happen ‘immediately’ and 50% only after negotiations are complete (compared to 48% and 47% respectively among British leavers).
If Britain announced Brexit was being called off, the most common reaction by the French would be indifference (23%).
The country with the most people opposed to Brexit is Denmark where 62% want the UK to stay and only 18% want it to leave.
The pollsters spoke to 1,729 people in the UK and 1,031 in France.
