GDF fined €1,500 for incorrect bill
Court ruling is believed to be a first and could make it easier for other customers with disputed bills to sue
AN ELDERLY woman who was threatened by gas supplier GDF over a disputed €7,000 bill has successfully sued the group for €1,500.
The ruling by a court in Paris could make it easier for other energy customers with incorrect bills to take legal action against the provider.
The tribunal correctionnel said GDF was wrong to threaten to cut off the woman’s gas supply if she failed to pay the over-priced bill.
She was awarded the €1,500 damages as compensation for the stress she had suffered.
Consumer organisations believe as many as 30,000 GDF customers in France are in dispute with the company about the amount they have been billed.
