George V hotel is now a Palace

Four months after being left off list of the best hotels in France, the ‘best hotel in the world’ is named a Palace

THE HOTEL that has regularly been voted the best hotel in the world, the Four Seasons George V in Paris, has finally been awarded the prestigious Palace rating by the French tourism authority, Atout France.

Palace is the highest level of excellence in French hotel ratings and when the original list of eight palaces was unveiled four months ago there was astonishment that the George V – and the Ritz – had not been included.

It joins the Bristol, Meurice, Plaza Athénée and Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme in Paris, along with the Airelles and Cheval Blanc at Courchevel, the Hôtel du Palais in Biarritz and the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat at Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.

The George V has been named best city hotel worldwide for eight years and best city hotel in Europe for ten years by Gallivanter's Guide; best hotel in France by Condé Nast Traveler, and best hotel in Europe for two years by the Sunday Times Travel Magazine.
