German fined for 237kph on motorway
The 49-year-old man was racing other drivers when he was pulled over by gendarmes on Sunday morning
A GERMAN driver has been caught on the A7 motorway in France doing 237kph with his wife and children on-board.
The 49-year-old man was racing other drivers when he was pulled over by gendarmes on Sunday morning near Valence, in the Drôme.
Clocked at more than 100kph over the legal speed limit, his driving licence was confiscated and he was ordered to pay a €750 fine and will receive a French court summons.
The A7, where the German driver was stopped, is popular with foreign drivers, as the main north-south motorway linking Lyon with the Mediterannean coast.
Drivers who break French speed limits by more than 50kph face up to a €1500 fine, six lost licence points and a three year driving ban. The legal limit on most motorways in France is 130kph.
