Great list, but Ypres is Belgian
Congratulations on an excellent article in your February issue on 100 things to do in France
CONGRATULATIONS on an excellent article in your February issue on 100 things to do in France.
Reading the list, we feel very lucky to have visited many of the places listed, either during long caravan holidays or subsequently since we moved to the Correze permanently some six years ago.
However I would point out one error. Item 8: Tyne Cot and Ypres are in Belgium, not France.
For a similar location in France, I would suggest either Thiepval (pictured) or Delville Wood, both on the Somme. The former is the inspiring, or maybe even overpowering, monument built by Lutyens; the latter is the quietly moving simplicity of the South African memorial.
Since moving to France we have tried, not always unsuccessfully, to take one day a week out to explore within approximately 100 kilometres of our home.
We have no set routes; just follow any road that looks interesting, and you will soon find something worth stopping for. It may not be in the guide books, but all
the better for that.
