Groups helping with Brexit red tape can apply for cash
The UK government is offering voluntary organisations working to help Britons living abroad in France and other EU countries a share of a £3million fund.
The money has been set aside to help Britons prepare for Brexit and especially to give assistance with paperwork.
It is aimed in particular at helping those among the 1.2million Britons estimated to live abroad in the EU who may otherwise struggle with the requirements to maintain their residency, such as pensioners and disabled people and those living in remote locations or who have language difficulties.
Bodies concerned can find out more about applying for some money as of September 19 at this page, the government says.
This is intended to build on the work of the British embassy, including its outreach meetings, and comes as the government is advising people to take steps as soon as possible such as formalising their residency rights, registering for state healthcare if entitled to it, and checking their UK passports would be valid for travel into the EU after Brexit.
The latest edition of The Connexion newspaper also has advice on Brexit, including the issue of how to prove you are a resident of France if returning from a holiday. We are also preparing a new guide to Brexit and Britons in France.
