Hail warnings as storms set to batter east of France again

Heightened weather alerts extended to Saturday morning in several departments

The area has already been hit by storms multiple times in recent days

Powerful storms are expected to continue to batter the east of France this evening following several days of major disturbances in the area. 

Forecasters are warning that hail of up to 5cm in diameter may fall throughout the evening. 

Rain and strong winds are also expected, although temperatures should see seasonal averages.

Earlier this week, hail 6cm in size fell in the Loire department during brief but powerful storms

As of 11:30, seven departments in the east of France are on a heightened tier-three orange alert for storms. 

These are: Ain, Haute-Loire, Haute-Savoie, Isère, Loire, Rhône, Savoie.

These heightened warnings are to come into force late afternoon / early evening (from 16:00) and last until 06:00 on Saturday (June 7) morning. 

From this point on storms are still possible in the departments but expected to be less intense.

Those in these areas can follow updated information through local channels or the website of state forecaster Météo France. and should follow safety advice based on the weather warnings given.
