Hip-hop mayor is an internet hit
Dancer’s video shows mayor dancing in mairie office in bid to ‘show you can have fun in the town’
FRENCH mayor Hervé Blanché has been an astonishing hit on the internet after a video was posted on YouTube of him dancing hip-hop in his office in the mairie.
The video of him tumbling, standing on his head and being flipped has been viewed around 21,000 times less than a day as Mr Blanche, the mayor of Charente-Maritime port Rochefort, learns moves from dancer Tony Merguez.
Hip-hop professional Tony Merguez had made the film with his fellow Pyramid company dancer Aziz Texas Couscous in a bid to show that there was life in the town.
He told Sud Ouest that he had been making a film of Rochefort and wanted to show it from “an original angle, to show that one can have fun in the town”.
Tony added: “I’m sick and tired of clichés of a sad and decaying town.”
He has spent two months making a film showing different sides of the town, including UMP mayor Hervé Blanché – who said that he “did not want to be seen as just another mayor”.
