The way to correct your declaration depends on how you originally declared the information this spring
Published Modified

If you are concerned that you have made a mistake in your tax declaration earlier this year there is still time to correct it.

Although the deadline to submit 2024 income declarations (of 2023 income) was in May or June (depending on where you live), the service to correct the information if needed opened on July 31.

It is open until today (December 4), closing at 23:59, and allows you to make changes to the information you submitted, in the case of an error or accidental omission.

How do I make the changes to my French tax declaration?

If you need to make a change, you can do so via your personal space on the French tax website.

Once you are logged in, click on the Accédez à la correction en ligne button to make the necessary changes.

You will receive an updated avis (tax statement) once you have made the changes, indicating the new level of the tax you are expected to pay (if you are required to pay any).

However, this avis is not processed automatically, and may take some time to appear in your personal space.

Note, not all information can be changed. For example, changes to your personal information (marriage status, address, etc) cannot be made in this way.

If it is not possible to edit the information you wish to change, you can contact the tax services using the Messagerie sécurisée service.

Click this button, and then Ecrire > Je signale une erreur sur le calcul de mon impôt > Ma demande concerne l'impôt sur le revenu ou les prélèvements sociaux, then explain what you wish to change and why.

If you made your original declaration via the impots.gouv mobile application, it is only possible to make changes via the smartphone app.

Log into the service, and follow the same instructions as for the website listed above.

Paper declarants can also make changes

If you declare your income via a paper form, it is possible to make corrections up to two years after submitting it.

You cannot use the French tax website to correct your declaration (as it is not available on your personal space).

However, you can use the messaging system – in the same way as explained above – to notify the authorities of an error.

In addition, you can send a letter to your local tax office. The letter must include:

  • Your full name

  • Address

  • Handwritten signature,

  • The name of the tax concerned (in this case, Déclaration des revenus en 2024)

  • Your tax number (numéro fiscal)

  • The reason for the change

You must enclose all the supporting documents related to the change.

Taxe foncière statements incoming

Property owners in France will begin to receive property tax (taxe foncière) statements in August or September, depending on how they have opted to pay.
