Hunter is shot by his dog
61-year-old man’s condition is not life threatening after unlucky incident in woods
A hunter has been shot by his dog while out in the woods in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
The incident happened when the 61-year-old man had left his gun up against a tree as he went to pick up a woodcock that he had just shot.
His dog managed to knock the gun to the ground before walking on the trigger and accidentally shooting the man.
The bullet hit his hand and forearm and he was taken to hospital by pompiers who were called by other hunters who were present.
The incident happened near the hamlet of Mesplède and the man was taken to the hospital at Orthez.
His son, who was also hit by lead shot, was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
