Husband charged on wife’s death
Briton freed on bail after body is found on roadside in Brittany
POLICE have arrested and charged the husband of British woman Susan White, 51, whose body was found on a roadside near her home at Trégonneau in Brittany.
David White has been released from custody on bail against the advice of police and the investigating magistrate.
Mrs White’s body was found on Monday night beside the road between Guingamp and Tréguier, not far from the house of friends where she and her husband had passed the evening.
Prosecutor Gérard Zaug said they were trying to find out the exact circumstances of Mrs White’s death, but her husband could give no information because of the amount of alcohol taken on the night. He said they had found an empty winebox beside her body.
White was charged after police found a large quantity of blood on the wheel of his van and Mr Zaug suggested it had been used to run over Mrs White’s head. Mr Zaug said it was not yet clear if it was done voluntarily or by accident.
The couple have been living in France for around 10 years, having bought a longère cottage at Praden.
