Lighthouse home with pool and sauna on sale for €1.5m

Known as the Kerbel lighthouse, the unusual structure in Riantec (Morbihan) dates from 1913, and has its main living quarters 25 metres above ground.

It was last bought by the anonymous owner at auction, for €300,000, in 2003, and has since been completely converted.

As well as a studio with panoramic sea views in the main part of the lighthouse, the property also comes with a “guardian house” on the ground, as part of the package.

It also has an old “oil room” as a second bedroom, which used to offer extra lamp oil storage at a time before the lighthouse was electric.

Across all its included buildings, the property can sleep six people in total.

There is also a swimming pool in the grounds, and even a sauna in the original “hat” roof of the lighthouse, making it the only property of its type in Europe with such facilities, according to estate agents Demeures Marines.

The catch? The property is on sale for over €1.5 million, equating to a cost of €12,000 per square metre.

Maud Caudal, estate agent from Demeures Marines, said: “It is an exceptional place for an exceptional client.”

The estate agent is open to offers from foreign buyers as well as locals, and has said that buyers could either choose to live in the place, or use it as a buy-to-let holiday home.

In fact, the property already been rented out as a unique holiday home since 2007 - including on room sharing website Airbnb - at a rate of €600 per night for two people (plus €150 for a second night).

At peak times in summer, the place has even been known to bring in €2,450 to €2,950 per week, and there are already tourist bookings into 2019.
