Losing out through Easyjet car hire
Connexion reader Brian J.Colling explains how he lost out by booking car hire through Easyjet.
I WAS disappointed recently when I had to cancel flights and car hire I had booked so my wife could visit her 93-year-old mother who lives alone in the UK. On Easyjet’s website I booked a return Grenoble-Liverpool, Europcar car hire, plus no claims cover.
Two weeks before setting off, my wife’s mother became ill and we had to drive instead at short notice. I asked Easyjet about a refund or a credit note for the flights and/or car hire. Neither was possible.
I fully accept Easyjet is a discount airline and was not surprised to be refused over the flights, but I was disappointed by their intransigence about the car hire. If I had booked directly with Europcar I would have been able to amend or cancel it.
Brian J. Collinge, Embrun
Easyjet replied: “Renting with Europcar alongside an Easyjet flight booking is the same as booking directly with Europcar but with benefits.
In a cancellation, a charge of €50/£45 applies, and the balance is refunded. We apologise if that was not the case here and ask the customer to contact us directly. We would be happy to look into this.”
