Lotto winners pay for school canteen
Couple who won €50m in the Euromillions pay for a year's supply of school meals for every child in their town
A LOTTERY-winning couple in the Charente have agreed to pay for a year’s supply of school meals for every child in their town.
The anonymous pair have given €70,000 out of the €50m Euromillions jackpot they won in March to the school in Saint-Michel near Angoulême to feed its 180 pupils.
The couple, who are said to be carrying on with their day-to-day lives, have already donated €400,000 to the town to fund various projects and save its retirement home from financial collapse.
Saint-Michel mayor Fabienne Godichaud said this latest donation was “a superb gift”.
“They wanted to do something for the families in this town,” she said.
“This not only covers the price of every meal this year, but it also means we can write off last year’s unpaid school meal debts.”
