Macron approval rating slumps to 36% after 100 days

Only 23% believe things are changing for the better in France, a sharp contrast with the 45% who thought the same in July 2007 under Nicolas Sarkozy.

The French president’s approval rating was at 43% at the beginning of July, but fell to 36% 100 days into his presidency.

By contrast, François Hollande had a 46% satisfaction rating in August 2012 at the same point in his tenure.

“Even the announcement of the Olympic Games in Paris has not had a positive effect,” said Ifop director Jérôme Fourquet.

Several reasons were given for the fall. 55% of people believe that Mr Macron has not stuck to the pledges he made during his presidential campaign, while 39% believe things have changed for the worse.

44% of people are confident that Mr Macron will reduce public debt and 35% believe he will work to combat terrorism.
