Madonna visits injured in France

Singer also meets bereaved family members after last week’s fatal stage accident in Marseille

MADONNA has visited the family of one of the men killed in last week’s accident when a section of staging collapsed

The star also went to two Marseille hospitals to visit the eight people who were injured in the incident on Thursday at the Vélodrome stadium.

The 53-year-old French victim Charles Criscenzo was killed instantly in the accident, but the Briton, Charles Prow, 23, died several hours later.

On her visit to Mr Criscenzo’s family in Aix-en-Provence she was surrounded by bodyguards, who were carrying flowers and was seen to hug one of the family members.

On hearing of the tragedy she had said she felt “devastated,” and expressed her “deepest sympathy to all those affected.”

Mayor of Marseille Jean-Claude Gaudin, who accompanied the singer on her hospital visits, said he was touched by Madonna’s “compassion and solidarity.”

A technical and legal investigation is ongoing into the accident, which involved a crane collapsing, which then pulled the rest of the structure down with it.

Madonna’s Marseille concert, which was due to be last night, was cancelled.
