Man sues over 'screw' in burger
Fast-food chain KFC accused after diner crunches teeth into metal
A MAN is suing fast-food giant KFC after finding a metal screw in his Tower chicken burger.
The man, Yohann Mahieu, had just been served at the KFC branch on the coastal road in Pérols, Hérault, when his teeth crunched into the 1cm x 8mm screw.
He said the noise of teeth on steel shocked those around him, and he was alarmed at what could have happened if he had swallowed the screw. If it had been a child it could have damaged their stomach.
Now he has filed a complaint with the police and is going to contact consumer watchdog UFC Que Choisir. "Consumers like you and I do not normally dare complain. People think we can do nothing against these large companies. I am outraged and I want the justice system to look into this case."
But he said he knew there would be difficulties ahead.
The Pérols fast-food restaurant initially blamed its supplier but Doux group, a supplier of KFC, said "the burger in question was not made using raw materials supplied by us."
KFC, which has 139 branches across France, said an internal investigation of customer services and hygiene KFC was underway.
