Maniac gendarme is a serial-killer
Film retraces the steps of the ‘ tueur de l’Oise ’ as officer leads probe into his own crimes
A NEW film on a gendarme serial killer is based on real-life events from the late 1970s, with Guillaume Canet playing a maniac who targets women.
La Prochaine Fois je Viserai le Cœur – Next Time I’ll Aim for the Heart – features César award-winner Canet as a seemingly-timid model gendarme officer who ends up investigating his own crimes.
It is based on the ‘tueur de l’Oise’ Alain Lamare who spread terror in the Picardy department in 1978 and 79. He started by running over women with his car, then went on to pick up female hitchhikers and shoot them.
He always used the same phrase as he shot them “I’m going to hurt you” and looked away as he fired – which was said to be why not all the women were killed.
In the film Canet is shown interviewing one of the survivors in her hospital bed.
The real serial killer, Alain Lamare, is today in a mental hospital after being ruled unfit to be tried because of schizophrenia.
The affair caused major problems for the gendarmerie as early investigators had suspected a policeman was involved due to the language used in letters taunting them. They were told to look elsewhere.
