Mayor bans Virgin Radio posters

The mayor of Clichy, Paris, has banned a poster for Virgin Radio for denigrating the elderly

The mayor of Clichy, Paris, has banned a poster for Virgin Radio for denigrating the elderly.

Mayor Gilles Catoire, who is also a member of the council of elderly and retired people, said the poster, which carries the phrase “don’t get old too quickly” was ageist and part of a “systematic devaluing” of the elderly.

The head of programming at Virgin Radio, Jean Isnard, said the campaign did not set out to stigmatise the elderly.

“We chose young models and used make-up to show that youth isn’t a question of age, but of spirit,” he said.
