Mixing priest ‘DJ Padre’ packs out ‘Christothèque’ dancefloor
A priest in the north of France has pulled off something of an Easter miracle – a disco packed with revellers and not a drop of alcohol in sight.
Polish priest Father Robert Wrona officiated at the Easter vigil mass in the hall of festivities in Cambrai, Nord, on Saturday night, but an hour later he had transformed into DJ Padre and was leading his flock of 700 – all invited by the church, whatever their beliefs – to the sound of pumping dance music at an event called the ‘Christothèque’.
Before being a priest, Fr Wrona worked as a DJ in Polish nightclubs, but nowadays he is invested with another mission: to make young people dance within the rules of the Church, which means no alcohol or other drugs.
“Now that we have done mass, we are going to dance with Christ…it will be very joyful,” he explained beforehand.
“It made me laugh," said one young woman enjoying the Christothèque. "A priest who mixes is not very common!”
