Moebius skills honoured at expo
Exhibition in Paris bringing together the work of celebrated French comic strip cartoonist Moebius
THE FIRST major exhibition in Paris bringing together the work of celebrated French comic strip cartoonist and film storyboard designer Moebius opens to the public this month.
Moebius, real name Jean Giraud, earned worldwide fame for his work and was best known for the adventures of Blueberry, the atypical Western hero who first appeared in 1963 and has been widely translated over the years. In the course of his career he has won several Eisner and Harvey awards for his graphic novels.
His designs have come to the big screen in a range of films including Alien, The Fifth Element, The Abyss and Tron, and he has made contributions to the latest Star Wars trilogy.
He has also illustrated works, including a special version of the world’s most translated book (by a living author), The Alchemist.
The Fondation Cartier museum for contemporary art has assembled 300 works, from draft notebooks to original paintings and some never-before-seen sketches.
The exhibition, called Moebius-Transe-Forme, also offers an exclusive first look at two new films, a 3D animation by Moebius and an hour-long documentary looking at the 72-year-old artist’s life and work.
A 250-page book is being published to coincide with the exhibition which exhibition runs from October 12 to March 13.
