Mont Blanc photo is world’s largest
A photo of the mountain which can be viewed online is so large it would cover a football pitch if printed out
THE WORLD’S largest photo is now a panorama of the Mont Blanc – which you can view online.
The shot created for the site in2white.com has a definition of 365 gigapixels – meaning that if it was printed out at the usual definition used by newspapers it would cover a football pitch.
That beats the previous record holder – a panorama of London – which was 320 gigapixels and was made in 2013.
The photo was created at an altitude of 3,500m and at minus 10C, over 35 hours, taking 70,000 images of the mountain chain, which were then combined into one involving two months of work.
Visitors to the website can use buttons to zoom in to look for climbers, wildlife or mountain refuges - or zoom out to see the whole mountain chain.
The project was the idea of Italian civil engineer Filippo Blengini, who has spent the last five years working on renewing ropeways on the Mont Blanc.
