Napoleon’s hat sold for €1.9m
One of the Emperor’s iconic bicornes sold for four times its original estimate
ONE of Napoleon’s bicorne hats has sold at auction for nearly €1.9million – four times the guide price.
A collector from South Korea bought the hat, which is one of about 19 of the iconic hats still in existence.
It was part of a sell-off of a collection of Napoleonic artefacts by the royal family of Monaco, which plans to use the money on renovations for the palace.
It was among items including cutlery and medals, a lock of his hair, and other clothing like a red scarf that he used to wrap round his head in exile on Saint Helena, some stockings and a shirt.
