New-look regional trains from 2013
Alstom has revealed the new look for its next-generation regional trains
TRAIN manufacturer Alstom has revealed the new look for its next-generation regional trains.
The company has signed a deal to deliver 1,000 models between 2013 and 2025. The Régiolis models, above, which cost €9m per train, have been bought by 11 regional councils in France.
Other councils prefer to use the double-decker models built by France-based Alstom’s rival, Bombardier.
Councils are predicting the number of regional rail travellers will quadruple between now and 2030. A long-distance version that can travel at 200kmh is also being built.
