A new luxury Paris-Italy train service is to be offered from May 2026, linking the French capital and the Amalfi Coast via a three-day route.

Offered by luxury service provider Belmond and using the historic Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train, the sleeper service will begin in Paris, travelling via the French and Italian Rivieras to southern Italy.

It is the latest in a series of rail journeys between Paris and Italy, including routes to Portofino, Florence and, of course, Venice.

The inaugural service will depart on May 4, 2026, with further services scheduled throughout the summer.

Leaving Paris at 11:00 (subject to any delays) passengers will be served lunch and dinner on the train, as well as having access to a bar cabin reminiscent of the heyday of luxury train travel.

After a night on-board the train, the following day also sees breakfast and lunch served on board, before the service arrives at Pompeii.

Travellers then disembark to visit the historic site with a VIP guided tour. Those with a ‘Grand Suites’ ticket are also permitted to see parts of the ruin closed off to the general public, namely the Casa del Larario Regio V.

Alternatively, there is a choice to opt for a private cooking class at the 11th-century Caruso hotel in Ravello along the coast, where travellers stay for two further nights.

All passengers reconvene at the hotel in the evening for a dinner service.

The third day sees travellers take in the Amalfi coast, with the choice of a boat tour around Positano or a painting lesson at the Caruso hotel.

The trip is rounded off with a second night’s stay at the hotel, with a formal gala dinner including live cooking stations and live music performances.

On-board and hotel meals are included alongside drinks in the price, alongside all excursions/activities, and an end-of-journey transfer to Naples train station or hotel.

There is one catch: prices for the journey begin at an eye-watering £8,600, making this a once-in-a-lifetime experience as opposed to a regular commuter service.
