No joke for clowns as boxer hits back
Harlequin thugs forced to flee as man they attacked in Riviera town was a champion boxer
AGGRESSIVE clowns picked on the wrong person when they targeted a man walking his dog in the Riviera town of Le Cannet – he was a champion Thai boxer.
Local newspaper Nice Matin reports today that the 20-year-old was attacked on Monday night in the centre of the town near Cannes. Three armed young thugs dressed as Harlequin attacked him – one had a baseball bat, another a chain and the third had a knife.
But after defending himself and launching a few kicks and punches, the Thai boxing champ and his husky dog forced the three clowns to flee.
On Facebook, a page saying it is for “Les clown à Nice” has one man threatening a “punch in the jaw” for any clown who comes too close – and another who jokes that the police should call in the BAC – or Brigade Anti Clown instead of the crime squad Brigade Anti-Criminalité.
Police have started an inquiry in the wake of several stories and claims of fake clown attacks across France – including this weekend where a gang of 14 armed clowns were arrested in Agde, Hérault, and two 30-year-old clowns in Montpellier were stopped by police after attacking a man out walking.
Children have been targeted in previous attacks and police fear that with Halloween approaching gangs of vigilantes will be set up to protect them. They have called on anyone who spots a clown in the street to dial 17 for local police.
